ADVENTURE THIRTY-NINE: East Cape

The East Cape is the eastern most point of the North Island, and is the first place to see the sunrise in the world! We took 2 days to experience ‘the Cape’ and enjoy it’s beautiful scenery. The 334 km road trip was stunning with endlessly dramatic coastlines, remote villages and a number of historical points of interest along the way.

We stayed the night in the aptly named East Cape campground and were amazed that we were the only people there, despite the most beautiful weather. We were so excited to be able to zip open the tent in the morning and witness the sun rising up out of the ocean in front of us. There was no power at this camp, but there were toilets and hot showers. What a find! It was the closest to a bush camp as we have experienced in NZ and it was really special.

Have a look at our pics and videos of our time around the East Cape.
