The Van:
Our mobile home base

As overlanders know, you'll spend more time in your seat than you might expect. You'll tuck your belongings into overhead spaces, hunt for that shared USB adapter, and hope your power bank makes it to the next campsite. The van isn't just transport—it's where you'll spend hours watching the landscape roll by, charging your devices, and chatting with your travel crew.

When the ZigZag team set out to choose a vehicle, we knew it had to be safe, convenient, reliable, and genuinely comfortable. We opted for a 2023 Mercedes AWD Sprinter—and it ticks every box.

The extra-long wheelbase touring van features:

Individual leather seats (your own space, your own comfort)

Individual USB chargers (yes, everyone can charge at once)

High-performance air conditioning (NZ summers can surprise you)

All-wheel drive capability to handle New Zealand's varied terrain

The Trailer:
Our kitchen on wheels

Behind the van, we tow a customised twin-axle trailer fitted with a full kitchen, refrigerator, and dedicated storage for your personal tent, stretcher, camp chair and baggage. This setup keeps us completely self-sufficient, so we can explore New Zealand's wilder spots without compromise.

The Gear

Your tent, stretcher, and camp chair become your personal retreat each evening. They need to be comfortable, rugged, and reliable. Because after a full day of exploring, you deserve a proper night's sleep and a comfortable place to unwind. We spent four months trialling equipment across New Zealand (including 5.5 inches of rain in 36 hours on the West Coast) before we settled on what we use today.
