ADVENTURE TEN: Deer Heights

Though Jemma had been up this many years ago, we weren’t sure if this private farm with it’s array of cheeky farm animals and breath-taking vantage points over Queenstown was still open to the public. But it was!! Thoroughly recommend a couple of hours up here, maybe hire a car for the day and do this along with Glenorchy.

We decided to go up for sunset on a beautiful clear blue day.We were met at the first gate by 3 Kunekune’s and some very eager goats. Now us, being animal lovers, couldn’t resist buying a $2 tin of food and most of it went to them – the greedy pigs, one of whom nipped Grants finger in his excitement! We carried on and found llamas and alpacas, many deer and stags and curious cows as we headed to the peak. Lots of photos later, on our way down, as we were about to leave we were accosted by a particularly friendly and hungry bunch of donkeys. They surrounded our car, to our delight and needless to say, the rest of the food went on them. Even with the tin emptied, they wouldn’t leave as they we enjoying the nose and ear scratches so much. See the fun and beauty below:
